The first(ish) post

Hello! I’m Monica Booth, and I’d like to warmly welcome you to Boothopia, my little slice of the internet. I’ve blogged on and off for years, and I’m happy to say that I’m giving it another go, and this time I mean business. I’ve got my own domain, my own theme, and my own words gracing your eyeballs. This is going to be fun!

First, a little bit about me: I’m a Canadian woman living in Fort McMurray, AB, but I’m originally from Hamilton, ON. I’ve been married to the most wonderful and patient man in the world, Chris, for a little more than a year now. Does that make us still newlyweds? I’m going to say yes just to keep the good times going.

I’m a lucky girl! Just so you know, Chris will be popping on here to guest-blog every once in a while. He is, after all, the original resident of Boothopia!

I’m a communications writer by trade, which may explain my on-and-off blogging lately. As much as I love to write, sometimes it’s hard to write all day, then come home and write some more. But after doing much research and learning from professional bloggers out there, I’ve realized that I’ve been over-thinking it for a long time. Blogging doesn’t have to be this big time-consuming thing. You just have to know why you’re doing it in the first place! I’ll be blogging here at Boothopia mainly to share stories and updates with friends and family back in Ontario, and around Canada and the world. That makes it a lot simpler for me when planning out posts. I mean it’d be lovely to one day make this my full-time gig, but for now I’m happy just to post updates in my life, and share a pic or two.

If you’re just stumbling across this blog and have no idea who I am, I invite you to stay a little while and learn more about me! Besides being Canadian, married and a writer, I also love learning new recipes, making quasi-attractive things in my local pottery studio, being involved in my church, and of course reading other people’s blogs. And now, onto the BIGGEST reason for setting up this blog. Yes, I just explained that I wanted to keep my faraway family in the know, but it’s what I’m updating about that matters.

I’m very happy to announce to the internet world that Chris and I are expecting our first child in March 2015! We’re over the moon and cannot wait to meet our Lil’ Ziggy. So I’ll be posting updates about the wee one’s growth and development each week, along with a bump picture (provided I remember to take one that week!).
