My goodness, Lil’ Ziggy is getting big! So much has changed in the past month, including a couple of big milestones. We’ve finally settled into our rental house here in Calgary, and I love our neighbourhood. It’s centrally located, close to friends, and it’s just one of those adorable neighbourhoods with tree-lined streets that look so cozy during the fall. There’s something to be said about older parts of cities, especially during this time of year.
Lil’ Ziggy and I have been doing a lot of exploring all over town, including the Zoo and Calgary’s many beautiful parks. We’ve even taken the bus downtown to meet his daddy for lunch. With the colder weather approaching, I’m thankful to have made several new friends with babies to have playdates with, and there are so many different places to take young children during the winter.
Here’s what Lil’ Ziggy has been up to this past month:
Had our first real family photos taken
Our good friend Wendy is a wonderful photographer, and she took some gorgeous shots of us at Confederation Park the other week. It was so lovely with the fall colours, and we really lucked out with the weather. The next day, it was frigid!
I’m very pleased with how the photos turned out, even though Ziggy was being a bit of a grumpalump that day. It’s nice to have some actual family photos. So far, I only had photos of Ziggy on his own, or with me or Chris. I think we had a couple taken when Ziggy was only a few days old, but I’m pretty sure I was still in my pyjamas!
Sitting up on his own
A big change for us this past month is that Ziggy is now sitting up on his own, unassisted! For a few weeks, he would sit with only minimal support, usually if he was wedged against our feet, but the second we took that support away he’d just topple to the side. But now, I can actually plop him on his little play mat and do things like use the bathroom while being relatively confident that he won’t faceplant. He still tends to pitch backwards every once in a while, but we put those interlocking foam squares under his mat, so he’s got a nice soft surface to land on.
For the time being, he’s still staying in one place, which is fine by me. I know that if I put him in one spot, I can bet he’ll still be there while I get some stuff done. He doesn’t even really seem all that interested in crawling or moving about, though I’m sure that’s coming soon. He loves to take all the toys out of his toy bag, wave them around and then throw them behind him. Then he gets stinking mad because all his toys are gone and he hasn’t figured out how to turn around yet! It’s pretty funny to watch, and we make a point of not handing his toys back to him right away, so that he’ll eventually rediscover them on his own.
Babbling up a storm
Sitting unassisted has been a great practical help to me, but Ziggy’s newest milestone of babbling is just plain cute. He can now make the sounds, “mamama”, “dadada”, “bababa”, “vavava” and “die die die” (eep @ that last one!). When he puts them together into incoherent baby talk, I just have to sit, listen and laugh. I know he’s had a good nap if he wakes up babbling, and he loves to tell his daddy all about how his day went.
And that’s about it for us! Coming up, we’re heading back to the Zoo this weekend, and Chris will finally be able to come along. Then it’s visiting with friends for Thanksgiving. Lastly, I’m dusting off my sewing machine to make a costume for Ziggy’s first Halloween. Wish me luck!

Late to the party on this, but he’s so cute! Claire is still in the sitting for 2 seconds but will fall over if something isn’t holding her up phase. I’m glad to see that sitting up past 6 months is normal. All people ask me lately is if she is crawling already, but she can’t even sit up! I think it’s more typical for babies to sit up around 7-8 months and crawl at 9, but I know some people whose kids are crawling at 6 months!

Yeah, achieving those “milestones” vary so much from kid to kid! I mean, Lil’ Ziggy isn’t crawling yet and he’s 7.5 months. I was walking by 10 months, my brother was walking at 9 months, apparently! Truth be told, crawling isn’t even considered a milestone because some babies NEVER crawl. They prefer other ways of getting around until they walk, like scooting or rolling. Ziggy is really just content where he is, so it’s tough to say if/when he’ll crawl. They sometimes get you thinking they’ll be in one stage for a while then BOOM, onto the next one. It’s so much fun!

He is absolutely gorgeous. What a beautiful little family you have here hunny. I love the photos. So full of Autumn beauty. They really grow up so fast don’t they? Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again this week for another great round of #sharewithme

Thanks Jenny! The photos turned out great, I’m so happy with them. It was a great time to get them taken too – the colours on the trees were perfect and the day was just so nice. I can’t believe how quickly Lil’ Ziggy is growing up. Right now, he’s sitting beside me, babbling away to himself and playing with his toys. Just a couple of months ago I couldn’t really let him be. I love that he’s developing some independence!

No! No! He can’t be 7 months can he?! Seriously?! I was thinking 4 or 5 months. Where did the time go?
I’m jealous of your zoo excursions. Calgary has a rocking zoo. We’re practically neighbours now!
Such beautiful pictures. Ziggy is looking fabulous! You all look great.
Thanks for sharing the update.
Wishing you a lovely evening.

I know right? It’s weird when I look at him and think, “wow, he’s so small, but so BIG”. It’s crazy that it’s been over seven whole months!
The zoo here is amazing. I picked up an annual pass and I’ve already gotten my money’s worth. I’m going again on tomorrow, I think lol.
Thanks so much for commenting. Have an awesome weekend :D.

ADORABLE! I love that he is babbling… I think that is the cutest thing in the world. I just had my first baby boy about two weeks ago, and I can’t wait to hear what his voice sounds like and watch him develop!

Thanks so much, Chelsea, and congratulations on your new wee one! It’s absolutely hilarious to listen to him babble. Each new development is so much fun to watch. Enjoy this time as a new mom!
